Despite Kylian Mbappe’s likely summer stay at Paris Saint-Germain and possible contract extension, Real Madrid remain calm.
Fabrizio Romano wrote for CaughtOffside that Real Madrid never intended to sign the France international this summer, as they expected him to join in 2024.
Real Madrid paid much on Jude Bellingham this summer, so it’s unlikely they could have afforded Mbappe, who may leave Paris Saint-Germain for free in a year if he doesn’t extend his contract.
In a surprising turn, Romano claims Mbappe may now be willing to negotiate a new contract with PSG, though he has several possibilities.
“Kylian Mbappe is back with Paris Saint-Germain after contacts in the last few days between the club, the player, and his camp. After productive talks, PSG informed Mbappe that he was back in Luis Enrique’s squad. Romano stated Nasser Al Khelaifi informed the squad that Mbappe is back and committed to PSG.
“What’s happening? Mbappe and PSG have had better contract conversations than in the past four or five weeks.
“Currently, there is no agreement, but there are two options: a short-term contract or a long-term contract with a release clause for summer 2024. Though no agreement has been reached, many subjects are being considered.
This might complicate Real Madrid’s situation. Real Madrid remain quiet. No bid, no negotiations, nothing this summer. PSG believed Mbappe will join Madrid in the summer of 2024. They’re calm and continue.”
