A month after joining Inter Miami, Lionel Messi helped the MLS team win its first major prize. After a 1-1 draw, they won the Leagues Cup final 10-9 on penalties over Nashville SC.
The night’s Inter Miami goal was Messi’s customary stunning strike. He picked up the ball outside the box and drove and curled it into the top corner, leaving the goalkeeper helpless.

The win gave Messi his 44th career trophy, becoming him the most successful footballer ever. He beats former colleague Dani Alves, who won 43.
Messi was the tournament’s leading scorer with 10 goals and one assist and the best player, which was expected.

Barcelona will feel bad that Messi isn’t wearing their shirt after their former player spurned them this summer. However, the Argentine seemed to be enjoying himself in America.
