“Impossible dream” to replace Thibaut Courtois as Real Madrid’s first-choice goalkeeper

Real Madrid announced Thursday that Thibaut Courtois has suffered a catastrophic ACL injury, which will likely sideline him for the whole 2023-24 season.

The news devastated Real Madrid and Courtois. Since joining Los Blancos, the Belgian international has been their finest player.

Andriy Lunin will start Saturday’s La Liga opener against Athletic Club, and Diario AS stated that the Ukrainian hopes to replace Courtois this season.

Real Madrid is searching for a new first-choice goalkeeper, therefore that won’t happen. Carlo Ancelotti prefers Yassine Bounou above David De Gea.

During his second stint as Real Madrid’s head coach, Ancelotti reportedly disliked Lunin and wanted him sold this summer. He doesn’t trust him, thus he won’t be number one this season.
