On Lewandowski’s return to Bayern Munich, Bayern beat Barcelona

Bayern Munich defeated Barcelona 2-0 in the Champions League on Tuesday thanks to two goals in three minutes from Leroy Sane.

After Bayern’s France defender Lucas Hernandez headed in a corner to open the scoring, Sane put the game beyond doubt.

After a fierce first half, Bayern Munich’s 2-0 Champions League win at Inter Milan was well in Barca’s favor after Sane scored one and created another.

In the 54th minute, the Germany attacker chipped a ball over Catalan keeper Marc Andre ter Stegen just three minutes after Bayern’s Hernandez headed in a corner from Joshua Kimmich.

During the pre-game warm-up, Lewandowski had several chances to open the scoring.

In the 19th minute, Lewandowski latched onto a dipping pass from Pedri, but he shot too high, just tickling the crossbar.

One minute later, the Poland forward received the ball just metres from Bayern’s goal, but Manuel Neuer saved his header from close range.

After 27 minutes, Raphinha drilled a low shot past Neuer, but the Brazilian missed the goal by inches after joining from Leeds.

Referee Danny Makkelie waved away Barca’s appeal for a penalty late in the first half after Alphonso Davies brought down Ousmane Dembele. Replays show Davies made clear contact with Dembele’s legs.

The half-time substitution of Leon Goretzka for Marcel Sabitzer almost paid immediate dividends, as the former’s rocket from outside the box was deflected into a corner for Hernandez to score.

On October 26th, Bayern travels to Barcelona to play the return match.

Inter Milan defeated Viktoria Plzen 2-0 in the same group.

After a 4-0 win at Porto, Club Brugge, who have never reached the group stage, now have six points from two games.

Atletico Madrid lost 2-0 at home to Bayer Leverkusen in Group B as well.
