Manchester City has made an official offer for Lucas Paqueta, according to David Moyes.
In his Friday pre-match press conference, Moyes said, “We’ve had an offer from Manchester City, but at the moment it’s not anywhere near meeting our valuation.”
West Ham want £ 85 million for Paqueta, who they signed from Ligue 1 last summer for £ 50 million.
The Hammers manager was also disappointed when Gianluca Scamacca, who joined West Ham before Paqueta, returned to Italy.
“We liked the boy and are disappointed it didn’t work out,” he said. “But, he didn’t want to be here, didn’t want to be in England, and he had all his rehabilitation in Italy when we wanted him to have it here.”
“We’ve moved one or two on,” Moyes said when asked if the Hammers needed to sell any more first-team players after Nikola Vlasic and Declan Rice left for Torino and Arsenal, respectively. Scamacca and Vlasic left the team.
“Chelsea bought a lot of players. When signing them, you need a number and a balance of players in each position.
Harry Maguire, a Manchester United and England defender, is close to joining East London, but Moyes would not confirm.
“We’ve had a bit accepted from Manchester United,” he continued, “but while he’s not our player I’m not in a position to discuss him really.”
The manager said that the recent arrival of Edson Alvarez should be the first of several players arriving at Stratford before the transfer window cutoff.
“James Ward-Prowse is having a medical,” he said. “We’ve agreed a fee, but it’s not appropriate I speak about him as he’s not yet our player.
We’re glad Alvarez made it. He’s unavailable tomorrow because he hasn’t trained since the CONCACAF Gold Cup.
