Porto won 1-0 at Estadio do Vizela on Sunday to keep their championship defence faultless. Ivan Marcano scored in the 90th minute to halt the Vizelenses’ three-game losing record against the champions.
Porto opened off 2022-23 with a 3-0 win against Tondela on July 30 to capture their 23rd Portuguese Supertaca title, then beat Maritimo 5-1 in their league opener on August 6. Sergio Conceicao’s side earned their third league title in five years last season with 91 points from 34 games. Since April’s 1-0 loss to Braga, they’ve won each of their past 10 games in all competitions.
Their next opponent is Sporting Lisbon, who has lost twice and drawn three times since a 2-1 win in January 2021.
Last Saturday, Amorim’s side opened their Primeira Liga campaign with a 3-0 win over Rio Ave. Pedro Goncalves and Matheus Nunes scored for the Leoes in a one-sided match at the Estadio Jose Alvalade.
Sporting Lisbon had a lacklustre preseason, winning just one of five friendlies before drawing 3-3 with Braga on August 7. The 2019-20 champs had seven victories and three draws in 10 road games since the new year.
Porto have won their past 11 home games in all competitions, dating back to a 1-0 setback to Lyon in March.

Porto have no injury or suspension problems heading into the weekend, giving Amorim a full-strength team. Conceicao will likely start Joao Mario, Pepe, Marcano, and Zaidu Sanusi on Saturday despite their recent loss to Vizela. Mehdi Taremi, Evanilson, and Danny Loader should unite again, while Pepe, Matheus Uribe, and Marko Grujic should stay in the middle.
Daniel Braganca, 23, is out for Sporting Lisbon after tearing his ACL in May. Paulinho is also a doubt after missing the 3-0 win over Rio Ave with a small injury. Hidemasa Morita will replace midfielder Nunes, who just joined Wolverhampton Wanderers. Gonvalves has scored three goals in his first two games and is one to watch.
