Mohamed Salah halved Liverpool’s deficit in the 81st minute, but Man United held on for a crucial three points, leaving Liverpool in 16th place with just two points from their first three matches. Liverpool are seven points behind early leaders Arsenal and five behind champions Man City, so they are under pressure heading into this game. Their next two are against an improving Newcastle United and Everton in the Merseyside derby.

Liverpool’s injury troubles are a problem at this time of the season, and another poor result this weekend would lead to further criticism.

Bournemouth have lost their previous six Premier League meetings against Liverpool, including both this season. They last beat Liverpool at home in December 2016. Scott Parker’s side beat Aston Villa 2-0 on August 6, but they’ve since lost to Manchester City and Arsenal, surrendering seven goals.

Bournemouth have struggled in their last two matches against the Premier League’s top two teams. The promoted side will enter the contest off a win, having beaten Norwich City on penalties in the EFL Cup on Tuesday.

The Cherries finished second in the Championship last season with 88 points from 46 matches and just eight defeats, but they know the battle ahead of them in the Premier League. Bournemouth had five straight seasons in the Premier League before two in the Championship, and they hope to return.
