Liverpool vs Leicester City Preview

Liverpool fans were having a great time as the team returned from the World Cup break with a win against Aston Villa and the signing of Netherlands attacker Cody Gakpo. Despite some close calls, Liverpool won with strikes from Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and 18-year-old Stefan Bajcetic. The win did not change Liverpool’s position in the Premier League, as they remain in sixth place, but they are now only five points behind fourth-place Tottenham Hotspur. Liverpool has only lost one of their last 31 Premier League home games, and they have not suffered consecutive defeats in their final game of the calendar year since 1961.

Leicester City suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Newcastle United on Boxing Day. Chris Wood’s penalty, Miguel Almiron’s composed finish, and Joelinton’s header secured the win for Newcastle in the first half. Leicester has four points separating them from the drop zone, and they have won four straight away games in all competitions, including Premier League victories at Wolverhampton Wanderers, Everton, and West Ham United. However, Liverpool won 2-0 over Leicester at Anfield in February, and the traveling fans are not optimistic about repeating this result.

Liverpool vs Leicester City Team News

The signing of Gakpo comes at a good time for Liverpool, as they are currently without Arthur, Diogo Jota, and Luis Diaz for the long term, and Roberto Firmino is unlikely to recover from his calf injury yet. James Milner (hamstring) and Curtis Jones (shin) are also hoping to make a comeback in Liverpool’s meeting with Brentford on January 2, where Gakpo could be available if Liverpool can finalize the details with PSV Eindhoven in time. World Cup finalist Ibrahima Konate is now back in training for Liverpool and could be one of a few changes due to the packed holiday schedule. The fresh legs of Harvey Elliott and Fabio Carvalho could also be utilized in the starting lineup.

Leicester suffered an additional injury in their defeat to Newcastle, as Dennis Praet was injured by Joelinton’s knee and had to leave the game after 17 minutes. Praet will not play in this game, along with Ryan Bertrand, Ricardo Pereira, James Justin, Jonny Evans, and James Maddison, who is experiencing problems with his troublesome knee injury again. Praet’s injury could benefit Ayoze Perez or Marc Albrighton’s chances of returning to the starting lineup, and Jamie Vardy and Wilfred Ndidi could also benefit from some rotation for the visiting team.

Liverpool vs Leicester City Possible Lineup

Liverpool (Possible XI):  Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Thiago, Fabinho, Elliott; Salah, Nunez, Carvalho

Liverpool vs Leicester City Prediction

Leicester’s strong defense didn’t hold up against Newcastle’s offensive tactics, and it is likely to have the same result against Rodgers’ former team. With Liverpool’s fans feeling confident due to recent events on and off the field, it is expected that Klopp’s in-form team will use their home advantage to their full advantage and end the year with another win.
