UEFA said on Tuesday, Russia will not be able to qualify for EURO 2024.
The latest news was another blow to Russian football. Since Russia invaded Ukraine in February, the country and its football clubs have been banned from UEFA and FIFA games.
Because of the clubs’ participation in the UEFA Champions League and Europa League, the national men’s team has already been unable to qualify for the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup or play in the UEFA Nations League.
Russia was also kicked out of the Women’s Euro 2022, and Portugal took their place.
“As of right now, all Russian teams are suspended because of a decision made by the UEFA Executive Committee on February 28, 2022, and confirmed by the Court of Arbitration for Sport on July 15, 2022.
“Russia is therefore not part of the qualifying draw for the UEFA European Football Championship 2022–24,” said an official statement from the group in charge of football in Europe.
On October 9 in Frankfurt, Germany, the qualifying draw for EURO 2024 will take place.
