Last season, the visitors reached the semi-finals of the Europa Conference League after finishing third in their Europa League group, but eventual runners-up Feyenoord dashed their hopes of glory.

Marseille has been in the Champions League twice before. However, they failed to emerge from the group in their last two attempts. Before playing Tottenham competitively for the first time, they have suffered 12 defeats against English opposition in the tournament.
